Sixthform Welcome
From our Headteacher
We are delighted to welcome you as parents to our Sixth Form Community.
At Poole High School, we believe an outstanding Sixth Form education is about more than examinations. It is about helping young adults to build character, discover their passions and shape their ambitions. This is a pivotal stage in their education, where students are supported to take increasing responsibility for their learning, choices and future direction.
Sixth Form marks a shift towards greater independence: students are expected to develop resilience, self‑discipline and independence, while parents and carers move into a more advisory and supportive role.
A central purpose of our Sixth Form is to prepare young adults for ambitious and well‑informed futures. Whether students aspire to university, degree‑level apprenticeships, employment or further training, we are committed to ensuring every pathway is aspirational, purposeful and stretching. Our guidance and careers programme supports students to explore options, refine ambitions and make confident decisions. We are proud of the culture of aspiration, responsibility and opportunity that defines our Sixth Form.
By working together, and respecting growing independence alongside strong support, we can ensure every young adult leaves Poole High School with the confidence, character and ambition to succeed in the future they choose.

From our Head of Sixth From
Our Sixth Form is something we are extremely proud of. Year on year, students achieve excellent outcomes and progress to a wide range of ambitious destinations. This success is built on high‑quality specialist teaching, clear expectations and a culture that values hard work, curiosity and aspiration.
Families play a vital role during these two important years. As students take on greater independence and responsibility, parental encouragement and guidance remain key in building motivation, resilience and focus. By working in partnership, we support students while helping them develop the independence they will need beyond school. Preparation for next steps is a priority throughout Years 12 and 13. Whether students are aiming for university, competitive courses, degree‑level apprenticeships or other pathways, early guidance and informed decision‑making are essential.
We ensure students have the time, advice and opportunities needed to explore options fully and make confident choices. This support is provided by an experienced Sixth Form team who work closely with students as individuals. Pastoral and wellbeing staff ensure students feel safe, valued and supported. Academic mentors and subject specialists help students develop strong learning habits and make excellent progress. University, UCAS, careers and apprenticeship specialists guide students through competitive application processes and high‑quality opportunities.
Together, we ensure every student is known, challenged to aim high and supported to achieve their potential. Strong relationships between students, families and staff make Sixth Form a truly formative experience —one that equips young people with confidence, direction and purpose for the next stage of their journey.
